Starting March 18th at 6:30 p.m., Aquarium Overnight is one of Albuquerque’s most anticipated family events. The official program begins promptly at 7 p.m. with volunteers teaching participants about the ocean animals and their nighttime behavior. There will be free time to roam the ABQ BioPark Aquarium, a group game show, movie marathon, and a fun scavenger hunt.

Check-in is from 6:30 to 6:45 in the Education Building and food won’t be provided, so be sure to bring your own snacks and beverages. The sleepover ends at 8 a.m. on the 19th and The Shark Reef Café will be open for breakfast. The cost is $30 per person, and pre-registration is required. Children under 18 must also be accompanied by an adult.

National Quilting Day

Held at the ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden on March 19th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., this special exhibition is a great opportunity to explore the gardens and view some incredible quilts. The Quilt Show itself is located inside the Botanic Garden Showroom. Once you’ve finished viewing the handiwork by local crafters, explore the more than one-and-a-half miles of outdoor paths.

The cost of visiting the quilting exhibition is included in the price of admission to the Botanic Garden. You can also view other quilting demonstrations at Heritage Farm on the second Wednesday and fourth Thursday of each month.

Opera Southwest Pre-Opera Seminar

Held at The Albuquerque Museum on March 19th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Opera Southwest Pre-Opera Seminar is a discussion of Il Turco in Italia (The Turk in Italy), the two-act opera by Gioachino Rossini. This seminar will include discussions by Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Anthony Barrese, as well as the stage director, scenic designer, and leading soprano of the performance scheduled to begin Sunday, April 3rd at Opera Southwest. Il Turco in Italia was one of OSW’s most popular and critically acclaimed explorations of Rossini, making this zany opera one not to be missed.

Reservations for the pre-opera seminar are just $10 for OSW Guild members and $12 for the general public.

Marine Mammals Celebration

A great event for the whole family is the Marine Mammals Celebration at the ABQ BioPark Zoo and Aquarium. Held from March 24th to March 26th, this appreciation week is all about educating the public about marine mammals and the dangers they face related to polluted oceans, climate change, and shrinking habitats. Learn about polar bears and seals and their crucial role in the food chain. You’ll also discover how you can help keep the environment clean and protect local species.

The cost of attending this event is included in the price of regular ABQ BioPark admission.
