Albuquerque, New Mexico, in April beckons you away from the house with comfortable temperatures in the 60s and mostly sunny days. If you’re ready to explore the city, several special events await you. Add the following five events to your April calendar.

Fiestas de Albuquerque

Fiestas de Albuquerque celebrates the city’s 310th birthday. The event will include artist demonstrations, live music, food, and free children’s activities. Descendants of Albuquerque’s founding fathers will make their annual procession through the streets at 3:30 p.m.

Fiestas de Albuquerque takes place at Historic Old Town, where you can immerse yourself in the city’s rich history and cultural heritage.

When: April 16, noon to 5 p.m.

Albuquerque Film & Music Experience

The Albuquerque Film & Music Experience, AFME, at the KiMo Theatre features international and domestic movies, poetry readings, live music, and art exhibitions. Networking events and industry workshops add to the allure, drawing more than 6,000 attendees.

Aspiring artists and performers flock to AFME to showcase their talents, while industry professionals turn up to scout out the best up-and-coming performers and film artists in the region.

American Indian Week: Pueblo Days

The American Indian Week: Pueblo Days event is an annual celebration, but 2016 marks a particularly special one in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. This weeklong celebration explores Pueblo culture through artist demonstrations, dances, activities, and more.

Learn traditional skills, such as drum making or jewelry making, sample fusion and traditional cuisine, and meet Miss Indian World following her crowning at the Gathering of Nations.

When: April 25 to May 1, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily

The Gathering of Nations Pow Wow is the largest competition of Indian singing and dancing in the world. More than 3,000 participants gather to showcase their cultural talents.

In addition to fostering an appreciation for Native American singing and dancing, this festival also features a massive Indian Trader’s Market and the crowning of Miss Indian World.

Albuquerque Renaissance Faire

This April, the Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum is hosting the Albuquerque Renaissance Faire. Art, music, and demonstrations will take you back in time to the Renaissance era. You can sample period foods and take part in themed activities.

Special highlights throughout the kingdom will include the Children’s Realm and Village Shopping. Don’t miss entertainment, such as the royal procession or live equestrian showcases.
